SUMMARY
______________________________
A Windows 8 lockscreen-inspired Rainmeter skin - This does not mean it's for Windows 8 only; it can be used with any computer that can run Rainmeter v2.5 ( [link] ) :)
So far, I've noticed that this skin is REALLY finger-friendly! (best experienced on a Windows 8 touchscreen ultrabook or tablet)

This skin's goal is for the user to NEVER have to right click -> edit any .ini files in order to get what they want.
This is still in ALPHA stage... though it seems to be running smoothly; if not flawlessly.

Not much to say - basically, what you see is what you get. ;)
Almost everything is tap/clickable (yes, even the AM/PM text) to customize so just left-click on stuff and see what happens. :D

Please leave any suggestions or feedback, thanks!

Can you make the Network Meter compatible with Ethernet?

I tried doing it myself but it just doesn't work.

Surprise! I'm BAAACK!

And I have a small bug:
Today's date, Wednesday, April 25, causes the date to overlap the notes.

Yeah, I've run out of things to break here. Everything is done so well that trying to break it has become a challenge. The things I WOULD have broken and warned you about you already added warnings about. Hmph.

It's even in the bloody preview picture!

Hey, can I ask you a question in regards to coding?

Haha, yeah, I always wondered why people never offered the option to customize the skins they make for their audience. So I did it. :)

Sure, what's your question?

I think its a fairly simple question and its in regards to paths. just so u have an idea its a slideshow skin and I'm trying to make it automatically get the photos from the default pictures folder. However my problem is, because i've set it up on my pc, it has my user account name for the path C:user/my user account details/kasjdlskd. I want it to automatically pick up those details for when the skin is installed on any pc.
I'm at a complete stand still with my skin and hope you can assist me, I've come to you cause your skin is pretty advance and quite frankly I'm a complete noob with coding.
The only reason I want it to work in this manner is because I simply want the skin to work the moment you install it without any customizing for people who are afraid to tinker.

Any help would be appreciated!
Kind Regards in Advance,
Simon

Ah, that's easy. The value for auto-retrieving system info is simply putting % in front of and behind the Rainmeter designated variable. In this case, it's %USERPROFILE% (eg. C:.%USERPROFILE%.Pictures. - where dots are backslashes). There are others, such as %USERNAME% (the name at login) and %OS% (for operating system version). :)

:iconexsess:

I don't think it's necessarily required to have C:. in front of the pathname for Rainmeter, as C: is what Rainmeter defaults to. You should only put a Drive letter if the pictures are located outside of its default location/library.
Reply
:iconexsess:
exsess Featured By Owner Apr 24, 2013
Actually, looking at Rainmeter's variables again, %USERPROFILE% automatically puts C:.Users.'username'* in front, whereas %USERNAME% just has the login's name.
So using %USERPROFILE%.Pictures = C:.Users.'username'.Pictures
And %USERNAME%.Pictures = 'username'.Pictures (without the C drive and Users folder).

So I think what you want is C:.Users.%USERNAME%.Pictures since you said your Pictures folder uses your login name (which is the same for me).

You're probably sick of me by now xD.

A couple things for the future:

Is it possible to have a last name field? I'm running off of a live account, so first / last would make this skin really integrated. Also, it is possible it is just my smaller resolution, but the name and icon both are mondo huge compared to the Start screen ones.

Annoyingly, changing the time format (or trying to), changes the background to dark (or toggles it off).
Just something to know about (if you didn't already).

Should I send these reports as messages instead? I'm not too sure about proper comment / reporting etiquette still (despite being a deviant for over a year now.)

Oh, you're right about the time-format thing (copy paste job from the Zunify file). I meant to have those disabled (greyed out) until I finish it. I'm uploading a hotfix as we speak.

As for the user tile being larger than the start screen, that was intentional - for screenshot purposes. There'll be original, large, and extra large versions in the future. In fact, I'll just have it as a tweakable feature under "Change user name". That will probably be best.

Haha, no, I'm not getting tired of you. I enjoy feedback and helps me bunches when I release updates. Truth be told, you're the only one that has given me bugs to look at, so I'm quite grateful for it!

Ok, I'll keep letting you know when I break your stuff then.

As an awesome aside, running the suite now takes about 30% less resources than before, even with Zunify on. I did notice that you said you cleaned the code, and it seams to have worked rather well.

ps. Zunify looks AMAZING with that globe wallpaper in the screenshot. During the yellow-orange-red cycles with the dark shades of blue and green on the other side, it looks like the sun is revolving around the earth offscreen, but on your desktop. :O

Wow, I wasn't expecting gains that large! That's awesome news.
Also, I made some other fixes while I was at it (figured out how to make it not overlap the taskbar... by subtracting the native resolution by the taskbar's pixel height o.O) :)
Considering these changes, I decided to bump it up to 0.71

Bubbles.

Also, is there a chance you could implement a similar fix for vertical taskbars? As it sits now I'm back to where the skin was before, which is where I have space on the bottom of the screen instead of where my taskbar is.

I've put my own fix in:

W = (#SCREENAREAWIDTH#)-62
H = #SCREENAREAHEIGHT#
X=62

And this addresses my issues with the taskbar. I'd imagine you could use:

W = (#SCREENAREAWIDTH#)-62
H = #SCREENAREAHEIGHT#

For right-side taskbars as well. Would this be possible to add on to the settings panel (later of course), to make the change easier?

Unfortunately, there's no way for Rainmeter to detect where the taskbar or if the user has the taskbar on autohide, OR if the user even has a taskbar. I suppose the best thing to do is to ask a onetime question on load up as to what the user's native resolution is or where the taskbar is located, if applicable -> perhaps will be in the Zunify settings section instead of a popup.

This is very nice. Since upgrading to 8 I've been holding out on running Rainmeter again, but this feels very much like an integration of many nice 8 things to the desktop. Will I do wish Microsoft would take more advantage of the desktop, nice things like this make me realize I wouldn't use theirs anyway.

Instant Faved and Watched.

Thanks, bud! Yeah, I know quite a few people as well that are a bit hesitant about getting on board with Windows 8. But, really, it's just a faster version of Windows 7, only with touchscreen capabilities. You can get by without ever needing to go to the start screen. But I quite like it.

Just idle curiosity:
Zunify works perfect with the taskbar in any position BUT on the left side of the screen. I'm assuming it is and issue with the auto-adjust coding, but am unsure at the moment. Just thought you might want to know.

Hmm... I see what you mean. I fixed that problem in this release, if people don't mind the taskbar being gobbled up by the overlay whenever they mess around with a skin. In some ways, it isn't bad, because then it's almost as if the desktop and skins become the main focus until you refocus your mouse onto an explorer window or something.

Update worked perfect. Actually, I know it's damn hard to do without extensive coding, but I'm going to try and create a smaller skin to plop on top of my taskbar and make Zunify run on top.

Awesome update to an awesome skin, keep up the good work.

The taskbar issue isn't cause for too much concern... it only goes over the taskbar when you're messing around with the skin, otherwise, it stays out of the way.
